Greetings, dear readers.
Well, here it comes – the great day of St. Valentine! A little history on this lovely day, if I may. It is said (legend) that St. Valentine, during his imprisonment in Rome, performed numerous weddings for Roman soldiers who were forbidden to marry. According to legend, St. Valentine restored sight to the blind daughter of his judge. He then wrote her a letter, signed, “Your Valentine” as a farewell before his execution for refusing to renounce his faith to his Roman captors.
The feast of St. Valentine was established by Pope Gelasius in AD 496, to be celebrated on February 14 in honor of St. Valentine the martyr. He was martyred in AD 269. In the 18th century England, it became a tradition to express love to a dear one by giving flowers, sweets, and cards, known as Valentine’s cards. It is actually a Feast Day in the Anglican, Lutheran, and various Eastern Orthodox churches.
Here’s an interesting factoid: in Saudi Arabia, in 2002 and 2008 the religious police banned the sale of Valentine’s cards because they are symbols of a Christian holiday. This created a black market for roses and wrapping paper in the color red.
Why is the color red the tradition of Valentine’s day? Red symbolizes passion and deep love. What better color to honor St. Valentine? As someone who performed weddings for Roman soldiers to marry their beloveds, despite being forbidden to do so. He is, indeed, the patron saint of deep passion and love!
Speaking of red, let’s have some fun! XD has some amazing red lingerie available right now. First, I would suggest the Valentina Bra with the Valentina Lace Shorty. This is a very sexy, lacy combo. Follow this up with the Rosa Panty, Contrast Rosa Panty, and the amazing Cutie Ruffle Panty.
XDress has even curated a special collection of their top picks of red lingerie and accessories for this special holiday! Check it out here.
Also, importantly, don’t forget – if you have a dear loved one, go to the “other side of the store” and find something sexy for her/him. This is truly a night for lovers, and I would love for you to celebrate it to the fullest. Love for someone else is one of the greatest treasures of life. Trust me – I know. I’ll be wearing something red for my sweetie, accompanied by Valentine’s card, red roses, chocolate, and, yes, a glass of red wine.
St. Valentine gave his all so that we may celebrate love. Now, get out there and celebrate love! Tell me about your Valentine’s day. We would all love to hear all about it (well, within an appropriate manner!)
