Silk vs. Satin: What's The Difference?

You might have noticed on our website and social media accounts that we’ve been getting a ton of silk and satin items in, recently! Both are quite shiny, and they have a smooth, luxurious feel to them. On the surface, they might look like the exact same material, but in reality, they’re actually quite different! Since you might be considering getting yourself some silk or satin panties, bras, or anything along those lines, we figured it’d be a good idea to let you know what makes silk and satin so different!

As you probably already know, silk is a type of material. It’s one of the more luxurious ones that comes from silkworms, and it usually has a smooth feeling when it’s woven. It doesn't always have that shiny look to it, but it usually feels softer than you could ever imagine.

Satin, however, isn’t even a type of material! Satin is actually a type of weaving pattern that gives the front of the resulting item a shiny finish, and a non-shiny back. (Did I just blow your mind?) This means satin can consist of many different types of fabric, such as nylon, polyester, and you guessed it, silk! So in this case, the one thing that silk and satin can have in common is that something that is satin could be made of silk, but satin itself is not a material. Pretty handy, right? Now you can take this handy information into the world of panty shopping!
